The first outing for our club freemo layout is coming up in just over a month, so I've been spending some time getting my module into a more presentable state.
The module has eight buildings which need to be done, and I've got half of them complete and ready. The others will need to be finished off this week. I'm not aiming to complete the entire module, instead it will be a first-pass stage, with all the scenery in place but missing the final layer of detail, things like signs, trees and other small details will not be added yet. The buildings will get window details and signs at a later stage.
The buildings are a mixture of Rix, Walthers and DPM, and as covered preciously (link) I've adapted a couple of the DPM buildings to fill a curved space. I've painted them in suitable colours and the windows have received a coat of matt black on the inside edges to help make the windows look thinner.
I added a BLMA grade crossing to the street, using their 1980's rubber mat crossing model. This matches the kind of crossing I saw when I was in Massachusetts a couple of years ago and the kit is beautifully detailed with clean edges and crisp treadplates.
The club space was a hive of activity this week as the members worked on their modules, and tested rolling stock. The bridge swing bridge module owned by one of the other members of Seaboard Southern has been extended to include a small town, with a 1950's feel, a gas station and various stores and houses have been added to either end of the bridge.
